SP – KC: D.Drago (3-0 1.67) WAS: J. Hannan (2-4 4.99)
GAME #042 @ Washington L 2-1
WP – D. Kelley (2-1) LP – D. Drago (3-1) SV – J. Dukes (5)
HR – WAS: K. McMullen (6)

Another well pitched game from Dick Drago, only this time the KC offense was almost completely shut down in the 2-1 loss. Drago only allowed two hits in eight innings, while walking three and striking out the same. Offensively the Royals could only muster 6 hits against the Senators and Pat Kelly saw his hit streak stopped at 10 games after getting the goose-egg in four at bats. Mike Epstein’s rbi double in the eighth was the deciding blow in the game for Washington.

POG – Washington’s Jim Hannan – 7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 101 pitches

“Tip your hat to him,” answered Paul Schaal, who went zero for three, when asked about Hannan. “He threw a lot of different stuff at us today, threw changeups in fastball counts and got us to get ourselves out.”

“I’m getting pretty darn tired of it,” was the testy reply from Ed Kirkpatrick about being pinch-hit for. “I’m one of the best hitters on this team and he wants to take me out? If I’m such a bad hitter, why do I lead the team in homers and rbi’s?”
