SP KC: B. Miller (1-2 3.55) BAL: J. Palmer (1-4 4.01)
GAME #031 @ Baltimore L 2-1
WP J. Palmer (2-4) LP B. Miller (1-3)
HR BAL: M. Rettenmund (2)
It was a well pitched game by both sides, but Jim Palmer got the best of Bob Miller in this matchup. The Royals led into the seventh on a Hawk Taylor two out rbi single, but lost the lead when Merv Rettenmund blasted a two run homer into the left field stands. KC was unable to scratch out any more runs against Palmer and the Os salvaged the final game of the series.
Pat Kellys hit streak came to an end at 11 after going hitless against Palmer. On the injury front, Tom Tresh will be out for about 3 weeks after suffering from an inguinal hernia.
POG Baltimores Jim Palmer 9 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 9 K, 130 pitches
I only made one mistake, grumbled Bob Miller afterwards. And I paid for it dearly. That ball got out of Memorial Stadium like it was launched on a rocket.
Maybe I can get another one started, smiled Pat Kelly when asked if he was disappointed on going hitless. I dont think that old Joe DiMaggios record is in any danger from me anyhow.
