I'm still happy with the deal. The Yanks bolstered their minor leagues by trading away a disgruntled aging vet. Yes, he's doing well with ARZ this year and I'm happy to see it. However, even with the gift of hindsight, I wouldn't want to do things differently.
The point Tom was making was that the RJ deal reminded me of the kinds of deal Georgie pulled off in the 80s. Trade away kiddies for a 40 year old pitcher to pull off a quick fix. Names like Rick Rhoden (Doug Drabek), Ken Phelps (Jay Buhner), Steve Trout (Bob Tewksbury), and Joe Niekro (Jim Deshaies) are all deals that come to mind.
