I traded Gil Meche to the Cardinals today, receiving LF Scott Spiezio and a number of lower-level minor league prospects. While not providing me much flexibility this year since he was only slated to make $700,000, it will get me out of the multiple 8-figure years that were coming. Plus, the fans like the fact that we got Spiezio.

We made a minor league deal today, sending CF Kenard Springer to the Cubs for SP Jerry Blevins. Just keep building that pitching prospect depth.

Florida traded 3B Alfredo Amezaga and minor league C Gualterio Melgoza to Toronto for MR Jason Frasor.

We made another minor league deal today, acquiring SP prospects Justin Orenduff and Scott Elbert from the Dodgers for MR prospect Leslie Nacar. None have developed like the two teams would have liked, so this is mostly a change of scenery trade.

We traded 1B Justin Huber today, sending him to the Washington Nationals for SP prospect Matt Chico. It might have been too early to give up on Huber, but his potential seemed to have topped out and we have a logjam at 1B.

MR Alec Zumwalt’s stay in the Royals organization didn’t last long. We acquired him from the Brewers on January 16th and traded him today to the Giants for SP prospect Craig Whitaker.

Milwaukee traded SS Tony Graffanino and $800,000 to Pittsburgh for MR Damaso Marte and minor league CF J.C. Cortest.

Yet another minor league deal today, as we dealt C Adam Donachie to Oakland for minor league MR Vice Mazzaro. Donachie was going to be eligible for the Rule 5 Draft and I didn't see him improving enough to make the 40 man roster.
