Wow. I had the strangest dream. Gary Sheffield and Barry Bonds on the same team. A 9-15 spring. Mr. Glass wanting us to have a winning record and drinking all my Crown. The fans heckling me for carrying 3 catchers and for trying to play Teahen and Gordon at second. Why the hell would I do that?

Anyway, I’m starting my new job as the GM of the Royals. I hope to make them fun to watch, especially for those like my dad who remember the “glory days.” I have a feeling I’m going to need a big stash of Crown for the first season or two though. We shall see.

Two trades today:
The Padres traded minor league catchers Jason Hill and Antonio Baldomado to St. Louis for RF John Rodriguez and minor league SS Don O Connor. Um…..ok. I guess Rodriguez could make a serviceable LF.

The White Sox traded Paul Konerko to the Angels for minor league CF Reggie Willits. I can’t believe this one. Ken Williams can’t be stupid enough to believe that Thome can actually play first for an entire season can he? Oh wait. He probably can.

The Dodgers traded Lieberthal and minor league C Mark Chettle to the Phillies for Jon Lieber and $3 million. What’s with teams trading 2 catchers in one deal?

The Mets sent C Ramon Castro to Washington for RP T.J. Tucker and minor league 3B Kody Kirkland.

Pedro Astacio only had a stern “No comment,” when asked about the rumors he was about to sign a 3 year, $13.47 million contract with the Indians.

Boston has traded 3B Mike Lowell, minor league SS Fleeting Welch, and $3 million to the Twins for 2B Luis Castillo. Wow. I’m having a major case of déjà vu.

Houston sent CF Charlton Jimerson and minor league 2B Jonny Ash to the Brewers for C Damian Miller and CF Tony Gwynn.
