Honey is not sweet for Bonson...

Lloyd Honeyghan, UK, Pro Debut vs. Paul Bonson, UK, 1-1-0 (0)

We are here at the Wembley Conference Center to witness the highly anticipated professional boxing debut of Lloyd Honeyghan. I am surprised that the UK Boxing Group, the team responsible for the management of Honeyghan, pitted their fighter against such a decent fighter for his debut. I guess they feel that their man is the real deal and they would like to see Lloyd get some good, quality ringwork in during the fight. Personally, I like a fighter that wants to fight against quality opponents. And both fighters have entered the ring in great shape. It looks like Honeyghan is charged from the electricity in the crowd as he comes out in an aggressive manner and takes the fight to Bonson. Honeyghan is swarming his opponent and outpoints him easily, 15-3, here in the 1st. A left hook and then a right hook by Honeyghan as he starts the 2nd the way he ended the 1st. It looks like a great round but Bonson lands some good punches of his own and might have stolen the round here in the last ten seconds. Bonson look frustrated, he cannot get out of the way and eats leather the whole round, 23-6, in the 3rd. The pace of the fight has slowed a bit, but Honeyghan makes the most of his punches and takes another round, 11-2. Bonson lookes fatigued in the 5th, Lloyd lands several unanswered punches and takes the round 18-0. Well, look who we have here, “The Pride of Wales” himself. Young Joe Calzaghe is here watching the fight between these two heavyweights. “So what do you think of the fight so far Joe?” “I like the way that Lloyd is fighting. He is a very good boxer. We have both spent a lot of time together in the amateurs and I hope we will both have the same success here in the professional ranks.” “Any interest in a possible matchup with Lloyd?” “Maybe down the road as we both progress and get into the rankings. I am just looking to take the best fights for myself right now, trying to build up my credentials before I enter the world rankings.” Well, thanks Joe, and now back to our fight. One, two, three punch combo, followed by a tremendous left. Honeyghan scores 18-2, in the 6th but looks to be holding his hand like he might have hurt it. If Lloyd hurt his hand, it doesn’t show here in the 7th as he lands blow after blow and the referee finally steps in to stop the fight here at the 2:52 mark. Winner by (TKO7), Lloyd Honeyghan. This was a good fight for Honeyghan. He got in some rounds against a good opponent, had a good performance and ended the fight by stoppage to entertain his fans. We can only hope that he didnt hurt his hand in the process.
