GAME #017 vs California W 3-2
WP – B. Butler (1-1) LP – K. Tatum (0-1) SV – M. Drabowsky (1)
HR – CAL: L. Johnson (1) KC: M. Fiore (5)

Bill Butler’s return to the mound was his best outing of the year as he went a season high eight innings and limited the Angels to five hits and two runs. The Royals offense did just enough to get the win by pushing across single runs in the first, fourth and eighth innings, with the game being decided in the eighth by Mike Fiore’s laser of a homerun that went just inside the right field foul pole.

POG – Kansas City’s Bill Butler – 8 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 1 HR, 118 pitches

“It felt good to get back on the mound,” said Butler. “I’ve been chomping at the bit to pitch ever since I tweaked my back.”

“He looked really good out there tonight,” said Ed Kirkpatrick about the Royals hurler. “He was mixing his pitches well and keeping them off balance. It was good to see Billy back on the hill.”
