Trade between Pittsburgh and New York
Pirates get:
P Ron Taylor (1.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HRA)
Mets get:
C Manny Sanguillen (0 for 15 in 9 games)

A trade for a couple of guys that haven’t done much this season, although I’d put my money on Sanguillen doing more than Taylor.

SP: OAK – L. Krause (0-0 0.00) KC – J. Rooker (0-0 27.00)
GAME #011 vs Oakland W 8-1 Game 1
WP – J. Rooker (1-1) LP – L. Krause (0-1)
HR – KC: E. Kirkpatrick (6), M. Fiore 2(4), P. Kelly (1)

Jim Rooker was solid in the first game of the doubleheader, scattering nine Oakland hits over nine innings while striking out five in his first complete game of the season. The Royals offense wasn’t anything to sneeze at either though as Ed Kirkpatrick, Pat Kelly and Mike Fiore all homered in leading the Royals to the victory.

POG – Kansas City’s Mike Fiore – 2 for 3, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 R

“I didn’t pitch well the last time out,” responded Jim Rooker when asked about his motivation. “I want to help this team win. It didn’t happen my last start, but it did this time.”

“Hey, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and again,” joked Pat Kelly when queried about his homerun.

SP: OAK – J. Nash (1-0 0.00) KC – R. Nelson (0-1 1.13)
GAME #012 vs Oakland L 10-2 (13 inn) Game 2
WP – P. Lindblad (1-0) LP – T. Burgmeier (1-1)
HR – OAK: B. Brooks (1)

Ugh! Usually when a game goes to extra innings, you figure the losing team gets beat by one or two. Not today boys and girls, the Royals decided to just completely fall apart in extras, as Tom Burgmeier gave up a three run bomb to Bobby Brooks. Before the Royals could get out of the inning, Tommie Sisk came in and a total of eight runs were surrendered. The lone Royal highlight came from Tom Tresh who had two of KC’s four hits on the day.

So far in two starts against the Royals, Jim Nash has pitched 18.1 innings, giving up only 7 basehits and 2 runs while striking out 10. He just knows how to shut down the KC offense

POG – Oakland’s Jim Nash – 10 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 4 K, 119 pitches

“When do we play them again,” chuckled Oakland pitcher Jim Nash. “No offense intended, but if I pitched against them every game, I might win the Cy Young award.”

When told about Nash’s comments, KC’s Lou Piniella wasn’t very happy. “Hey, give him credit, he’s pitched well twice against us, but we’ll remember those remarks. We’ll remember.”
