Agreed. But they may be doing so in the near future! That's why this is interesting to watch. Years ago in this situation, even after Cashman got the job, the pressure would be on to trade youngsters NOW for a pitcher past his prime who would come in and do a mediocre job while taking down his millions.
Recently, however, Cashman seems to have the authority and the security (I hope) to resist the stupid media and fans running hysterically in the streets because the Yankees are
temporarily under .500. Yes, he's bringing in Clemens for a measly few $$$. That's fine, I don't care how he spends Steinbrenner's money as long as: 1) It does not cost the Yankees any young talent, which the Clemens deal did not, and 2) It does not take the focus of the team away from developing young talent, which Clemens spending part of one season with us will not.
