Something about this bothers me. First of all, you should be limited to either four or eight teams qualifying for the playoffs, since the scheduler isn't set up to handle six. Second, if you wait until after January 1st you should be able to adjust your playoff schedule for the next season, so you'd only 'lose' one year.
On the number of teams issue, the schedule is supposed to limit you to powers of two (2,4,8,16, etc.) teams making the playoffs. The other limitation is that any one subleague cannot have more than two or fewer than one team(s) times the number of divisions qualify.
That means that if you have three divisions per subleague you must have four teams per subleague make the playoffs. That would be three to six, and four is the only power of two in that range. If you had two divisions per subleague you could have either two or four teams per subleague make the playoffs, but the default number would be two, so you'd have to manually select 'allow wildcards' to get the four.
Six teams making the playoffs just isn't possible. Either this is a bug and should be reported in the Tech Support section of the forum, or you aren't understanding something. Sorry.
