This is not a DB issue, I ha=ve the same problem anytime I try to add a league.

Exact same thing happens to me, too....
Load *** first, or load MLB first, tried every possible way but crashes everytime when loading the second historical data.
Wondering why and at the same time it's a shame not being able to enjoy this great set ! (I checked out the *** datas roughly, and impressed so much about the details, and I am a Japanese.)

Please let me know if you find out why this happens, and I will let you know if I find out something.
FYI, I use Macbook pro Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33 Ghz, w/ 2GB Memory.
