I never wanted Sheff or Johnson, or a bunch of the other guys they've brought in over the past few years. And much to my credit, since brining in these guys they haven't won it all either.

Johnson you just knew was getting older, and he is not nearly in the shape Clemens was in. Why give up the specs for an older SP as himself?

Sheffield, my argument at the time was you had Sheffield and Vladimir Guerrero both in free agency? Why in the world would you sign the elder of the two, when one was still young and had his entire career ahead of him? It was moves like that, that baffled me.

If you go back to the 80's, this was the exact problem. Bringing in older and/or unproven players for a bunch of money. As soon as George was suspended in the early 90's, the Yankees were able to build up there farm, let the baseball people run the daily baseball operations and build a competitive team.
