It's been a pretty common problem for quite some time with OOTP (dating back several versions). The difference between imported rosters from Lahman/previous versions rosters and from custom rosters has been quite large. Players potential just doesn't import well, and they degrade quite quickly and after a few seasons, your league is overrun by minor leaguers/fictional guys.
