BILLY KELLY FAVOURED TO WIN DERBY

According to the oddsmakers Billy Kelly, owned by Canadian businessman J.K.L. Ross, is the favourite for the 45th Kentucky Derby which will be held on Saturday, May 10th. Billy Kelly is listed at 2-1 while another Ross owned horse, Sir Barton, is 4-1. Here is the complete list of odds to win the event:

Billy Kelly 2-1
Under Fire 4-1
Sir Barton 4-1
Be Frank 9-2
Eternal 7-1
Sennings Park 7-1
Sailor 8-1
Vulcanite 10-1
Vindex 12-1
St. Bernard 20-1
Regalo 30-1
Frogtown 50-1

In real life Sir Barton won the event en route to becoming the first winner of the Triple Crown. However, Sir Barton was not expected to win the race. He was actually entered to be the rabbit for his highly regarded stablemate, Billy Kelly. Sir Barton ended up leading the field of 12 horses from start to finish and won by 5 lengths. Billy Kelly finished second. Sir Barton would also lead all the way in winning the Preakness, coming in ahead of Eternal. He completed the Triple Crown by setting a record for the mile and three-eighths race, the distance for the Belmont at the time. He was voted the 1919 Eclipse Award winner as Horse of the Year.
