Two of my 'pets' that I have babied along in some respects.
Ali Qamar has had a nice career. He got his world title shot against Cob Castro early in 03. Lost a UD fifteen rounder but held up better than could be expected. He then lost his APBC belt to Kittikasem in August of 03. He and Hwan-Jin Kim fought for the APBC belt only five months later when Kittikasem vacated for his brief world title stint.
He should get a shot at Gushiken this year but will likely get crushed. Mike's best days may be in the past. he is the number one SW in the APBC and will be facing Oh-Kon Kim soon. Kim is undefeated but beatable. If Mike loses that one, it may be a long way back if at all for him.
On a side note, I am perplexed about the real life Ali Qamar. He was a huge hero in India (or Calcutta at least) when he took a Commonwealth Gold Medel (India's first in boxing, I believe) from an Englishman at the games in Manchester. Then, he went into the 04 Olympic trials with high hopes only to be de-railed by a Pakistani in an unbelievable upset. Word from a Sri Lankan paper was that he would turn pro; and then absolutely nothing. I have seen not a single word written about him anywhere (and I actualy do search every few months because it is such a mystery to me)since 2004.
Edit: I should note that I have a number of Indian friends which is why I took an interest in him. If not for them, I wouldn't know him from Adam.
