No one uses Peking anymore except Western people of a certain age. To the Chinese, it can be seen as a biproduct foreign Imperialism as it was coined by French Missionaries. From Wiki
Quote:
Peking is the name of the city according to Chinese Postal Map Romanization, and the traditional customary name for Beijing in English. The term originated with French missionaries four hundred years ago and corresponds to an older pronunciation predating a subsequent sound change in Mandarin from [kʲ] to [tɕ]. ([tɕ] is represented in pinyin as j, as in Beijing), and is still used in some languages (for example, the Portuguese name is Pequim).
In China, the city has had many names

Likewise, Taiwan calls itself Taiwan. While initially a compromise between China and Taiwan to allow Taiwan to compete in the Olympic Games, today 'Chinese Taipei' is used solely at the insistance of China and is purely political. Here is a quick overview.

It seems very strange and ironic that the game unintentionally bends to Chinese imperial tendencies in regards to its naming of Taiwan and to Western imperial tendencies in its naming of Beijing.
