I figured it out....incase anyone else has the same Q......you have to turn auto-expansion off before you can force an expansion. Then, you have to move all teams into 2 divisions.....1 for al and 1 for nl. If you are doing this from 2005 on, you also have to move someone (Milwalkee??) back to the AL.
after you expand, you can move all teams back and generate a new schedule. The other thing you want to watch for is the rule 5 draft....if you want to go that route, you have to turn it on manually at precisely the right time. I hate autosave!!!
