I remember a game or two where Barry Bonds was batting and there wasn't a single player on the left side of the field. That's a little extreme but it happened.
That said, I don't know if this is a bug or not. Should have someone from the PbP group coment.
EDIT: Problem with XML? Maybe that would be along your line of work.
