I think for purpose of learning the game, I'd prefer real or historical. That way, you've got a basic familiarity to use as a sanity check for trades, etc. but....like everyone said, you do find yourself trading for names and not ratings. And....the most fun is player development, which means current rooks / minors players, or generated fictionals. so....I guess I should get off my lazy ass and start a fictional league and take it slow.
