uncheck 'Generate random L/R Splits'= splits still generated
When starting a historical game the 'Historical Player Import Options' screen comes up and one of the choices is 'Left/Right Split Ratings' and then there's a check-box for "Generate Random L/R Splits', So if you leave that box unchecked no left/right splits should be generated for the historical players. But, even with that box unchecked, every batter still has left/right splits.
The scouting system is turned off and the Rating Scales are all set to '1 to 100'.
for example, in a 1911 import from the Lahman Database with the generate random splits box unchecked, LHB Larry Doyle has a overall contact rating of 73, but vs LHP it's 59 and RHP is 78. And every other batter also has left/right splits generated.
The pitchers also have generated splits.
If you uncheck the generate splits, batters should have the same rating for LHP and RHP, so Doyle should have 73 contact and 73 vs LHP, and 73 vs RHP
I tried several imports from 1901, and one from 1911 and 1939, they all generated splits, when I didn't want them.
all imports used the Lahman database.
From the manual p89-
Left / Right Split Ratings-"Historical databases do not usually include data on how hitters performed specifically against right-handed or left-handed pitchers. If you select this option, a right-handed hitter will generally have better ratings against a left-handed pitcher. If you leave this unchecked, players will generally hit equally against all pitchers".
