1906 Draft Results
KINER TAPPED FIRST OVERALL
Promising outfielder Ralph Kiner was the first selection in the 1906 Amateur draft and will be joining the National League's Chicago Cubs this season, though whether or not he's ready to become the regular patrolman of the left pasture remains to be seen.
This time around, the BaTTY GMs elected to go with the wielders of the bat at the top of the draft, as the first chucker to get a call was Orval Overall who was grabbed by the St. Louis Cardinals with the fifth choice.
This year's sleeper pick? It might just turn out to be right-hander Jim Palmer, who was chosen ninth overall by the Cincinnati Reds. Palmer is young and has a wealth of talent. Another good bet would be the man drafted just after "Cakes" Palmer - a good-old boy from the Carolinas named Jim "Catfish" Hunter, who will take a spot on the staff of one of the American League's best teams, the St. Louis Browns.
