I wanted to bump this because I am having the same error.
Twice I have simmed using fictional players over 30 seasons to get some league history, trying to sim from 1946 to 2007. Both sims have stopped with an error message similar to jwstren, something to do with not being able to write text to team xxx. Bad thing is after clicking the message 897 times to make it go away the game crashes to desktop. Reload the game and try to load the main league screen and it gives me an error about not being able to load template. Does this on every screen, leaving the league useless.
