Yankees Win the World Series

Well the post season is over.

Yankees beat Texas in 4, Houston swept Arizona, and Cinny beat Atlanta in 4 in the 1st round.

Then the Yankees won the ALCS over the Indian 4 games to 1, and the Astros beat Cincinnati by the same.

In the WS the Yankees lost only one to the Astros in game 4 where Jose Lima got the win.

MVP and Cy Young Winners Announced

In the AL the MVP went to none other than Boston's own Nomar Garciaparra, who batted .372, had 202 hits, and a .429 on-base percentage.

In the NL the award went to Atlanta 3B Chipper Jones. Jones batted .325 while hitting 45 bombs in addition to his 43 doubles and 133 runs scored.

Both men were 1st in batting in their respective divisions.

Boston's Pedro Martinez also had some celebrating to do along side Garciaparra. He was awarded the 1999 Cy Young. Batters hit just .198 against Pedro while he went 18-3 in his 27 starts. He struck out 220 while walking only 26, he threw 5 shut outs and had an ERA of 1.93.

In the NL, Arizona's Randy Johnson took home the Cy Young. He had a record of 18-7, and an ERA of 2.69 in his 241.1 innings of work this season. In that time he struck out 295 batters and had a shut out along with 4 complete games. He was 3rd in the National League in ERA and 2nd in Wins.

The AL rookie of the year was Chicago's Chris Singleton who hit .299 (.336 obp) with 25 homers and 101 RBI. He also had an impressive 43 SB.

The Rookie of the year in the NL was Arizona's Erubiel Durazo, who batted .285 and slugged .585, he also had an OBP of .400. His 45 home runs and 115 RBI helped propell the Diamondbacks to the playoffs.

Other Notes

It seems that Boston isn't likely to re-sign Cirillo (.307-14-61) , and O'leary (.277-27-98), despite both having pretty successful years for the Sox.
