A player is not just going to sign on a whim without looking at other options for possibly more money. They almost always look for the most amount of money.

Not necessarily true. Jim Thome would have gone back to Cleveland if the money there was anywhere close to Philly's. The same could even be said for Jason Giambi, who only wanted Oakland to add a no-trade clause to go back there.

So sometimes players DO have a choice of where they want to go - and as soon as that team offers them a contract that is somewhere around market value, they go there.

Also, the game would be way too easy if they just allowed you to keep offering $1 more then what is now the highest offer. I kinda like it as is, even if it is annoying when a player I really want goes off somewhere else.
