1936 Prospect Watch:
VICTOR STARFFIN
This is his actual photo, by the way
After emigrating to Japan as a young child, this young Russian hurler learned the game of baseball. Years later, he jumped at the first chance to travel to the country that created the game and traveled to New York City in February, 1936. Fresh off the plane, he walked into the offices of the three New York clubs and demanded a tryout in broken English. Skeptically, scouts from the Perfectos, Knights and Highlanders gathered at the Polo Grounds expecting nothing. Boy were they surprised when he threw fastball after fastball right down the pipe! The bidding war has begun, and you can be certain it will be a dogfight to land this young hotshot!
