For me it boils down to 6.5 being simple to use and 2006 is more complicated. But, I don't think I realized how simple 6.5 was until I got my hands on 2006. Quite a leap, however I've learned to appreciate both for what they are.

It took me a while to actually learn and appreciate all that 2006 has to offer. I was used to playing 6.5/11 and still love the simplicity of it. Both games have missing elements that I readily recognize whenever I fire up either game. I like many of the additions made in 2006 but miss many of the elements from 6.5. So, perhaps 2007 will attempt to tie some of these elements together.

As was mentioned by other posters, not being able to port your league from 6.5 to 2006 with ALL its history was a huge set-back for some, including myself. I actually started my league anew in 2006 and unfortunately for the first time it has not held my interest as it did in previous versions. But, I'm not sure if that's because the game has changed or I've changed. Perhaps It's a little of both.

Although 2006 is a superior game in many respects, I still find myself fading back to 6.5 because of my old league and the game's simplicity. However, if Markus allows the porting of 6.5 leagues with ALL it's history to 2007 then that would be quite a remedy for many soloists.

Anyway, my hope is that version 2007 will prove a great game and I'm looking forward to hearing more about what it will offer.
