Not many teams do have a youth academy you even look at the top teams I think Liverpool only started their youth academy something like 10 years ago at most, it's only recently when teams have had to pay £10 million for 18 year olds that they've realised how important youth academys are.
Also add the fact Dave Whelan is as tight as they come, he owns the rugby team in town and rumour as it that the youth players if they want to take extra training at the gym he owns they have to pay

Again, stupid question, but why dont they have top-flight workout equipment on site? Even a university like UCLA has exstensive workout facilities..pretty much what you would find in any professional sport.
