Just to add my two cents to the mix.....
I aquired JD Drew in my league as a free agent. It cost me a whopping $15,000,000 but he turned out to be well worth it. He has been a leader on my team now for a decade and in those 10 years he has managed to break 500 HRs, battted a career AVG of .340 and has won League MVP (Best batter of the year) SIX times in the span of 8 years.
I would also concur with OOTPrulez about Blalock. He has torn up my league in the 10 years since he won Rookie of the Year.
As for the question of Pedro's Health. I drafted him as my #1 pick in the initial fantasy draft. He never had any health problems and even went 26-1 w/ a 2.18 ERA one season. I finally let him go to free agency as he wanted 14 million a year (already had $85,000,000 in payroll). He ended up winning two more CY Young Awards (after age 35)...I guess we can't keep ALL our good players eh?
