Make sure you have the right players in the right positions, unless he's really good it's no use having say a left footed player playing on the right wing. If your Crystal Palace you should be looking in the Premiership reserve teams for loan players specially ones that are around the low to mid 20 age group, I wouldn't bother looking in Europe just stick with looking in England.
Stick with it though, if your 4-4-2 system with players A, B, C and so on gets beat 2-1 for a couple of games don't change it to say 3-5-2 and players X, Y, Z or you'll cause unrest in your squad and confuse your team.

Ah, ok. I didn't realize that the players got confused and upset. I've been messing around with the formations constantly and I'll check out the reserve squads. I'll try some mo' patience.
