Has Giuseppe Rossi officialy declared a nation to play international football with?

In my current FM game, he declared to play for the USA and is tearing it up in the NA Gold Cup with 6 goals.

I found my answer on wikipedia

He has decided to play for Italy
I do not find that to be a smart move, he will have to fight for playing time where as if he played for the US he would easily get a starting spot
