Paul's Alternative Football Review of the Year Awards
Someone once said that football "is a funny old game". How true they were.
In fact, even the most boring of matches can become memorable by a moment of hilarity.
Blooper of the Year
Candidates in this category include two goalkeepers. First,
Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi getting tricked by a bounce but getting away with it (for Japan vs. Croatia) –

Paul Robinson getting tricked by a divot and not (for England, vs. Croatia again) –

Sadly, another of my favourites (
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...postcount=2701 ), the
unknown Beitar Jerusalem player who finds trying to take a corner kick in a puddle impossible has been taken down from YouTube.
The only video I could find is from a fan –

There is also Tottenham's
Jermaine Jenas's miss with the goal at his mercy, with the agony compounded when Liverpool scored down the other end immediately afterwards.

The winner though is
Demirel Volkan’s attempted punt clearance in Turkey’s friendly game with Italy which didn’t exactly go to plan. In fact he ended up blasting the ball at
Alberto Gilardino, who deflected the ball straight into the path of
Antonio Di Natale to tap into the empty net.

And just three minutes later,
Marco Materazzi – yes, his second mention in the awards already – continued the laugh-a-thon when he turned in a cross into his own net, and the game did finish 1-1.
