I'm talking day-after-day, season-long, career. There's been too much blab about how the Yankees looked unmotivated in that series. What actually happened is that the batters had a bad four game series and the pitchers were shown to be inadequate as we suspected. And the Tigers were hot, simple as that.

Please don't tell me that Sheffield inspired anyone in that series with either his bat or his leadership style. Because if you do, then I will say that yes he did, but in a negative way, hence the Yankees "lack of passion" losing the series.

BTW, Sheffield coming back and inserting himself at 1B cost the Yankees the presence of another player that could be mentioned in terms of passion and motivation: Melky Cabrera (it could have been Matsui DH, Giambi 1B, Cabrera LF) so enough about Sheffield and the Yanks in this past postseason.
