New 1967 Heavyweight Replay Project
Here's 5 Italians. Most not much to look at.
Gianfranco Giannini Rating 1
HW 1964-76
7 wins / 26 losses / 3 draws / 2 KO
Birthplace: Follonica
RAting by: Rocco Del Sesto
Not much to look at in Giannini who was stopped in 15 of his 26 losses while managing only 2 KO's himself. Two of his 7 wins were by his opponent's disqualification. He started out his career going 7-9-3,2KO from 1964 thru August 1970. That included wins over Valere Mahau, Natale Solda and Armando Zanini. The draws were against a Franco Persiani, Pietro Stracci and Solda. The losses included against Giovanni Biancardi, Vittorio Verrengia twice, Ermanno Festorazzi, Giancarlo Bacchini and Stracci.
After that win over Zanini though, it was crash and burn for Giannini as he lost his last 17 fights, 10 by stoppage. Losses piled up against Benito Penna twice, Lorenzo Zanon twice, Bjorn Rudi, and Timo Ahola as far as any note worthy opponents.
Natale Solda Rating 1
HW 1967-71
0 wins / 7 losses / 1 draw / 0 KO
Birthplace: Pola
Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto
Lost to Pietro Stracci(2-6-1,0) and twice to LHW Giacomo Usardi(5-3-1,2) in 1967. In May 1968 fought a 6 round draw with Gianfranco Giannini(7-26-3,2). IN October 68, those two fought again with Giannini knocking out Solda in the 2nd round. Solda was KO'd in one fight in 1969 by Piermario Baruzzi's first career bout, and then Solda was stopped in fights in 1970 and 71 by a Rajko Milic(his only career bout) and by Benito Penna.
Pietro Stracci Rating 1
HW 1967-69
2 wins / 6 losses / 1 draw / 0 KO
Birthplace: Offida, Ascoli
Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto
Beat Natale Solda(0-7-1) in 6 rounds in first fight in July 1967. Lost next 2 to LHW Giacomo Usardi(5-3-1,2) and HW Pietro Besi(11-10-1,6KO) in 1967. In 1968 drew one fight and won another against Gianfranco Giannini(7-26-3,2) and then lost to Ermanno Festorazzi(9-19-2,7). Later in 1968 lost two more fights to LHW Gianfranco Macchia(21-9-5,12) and Romano Peviani(7-8-0,2). Lost one last fight in May 1969, a 6th round KO to Giorgio Bambini who was fighting for the first time winning the first of 15 fights without defeat in his career.
Pietro Besi Rating 1
HW 1964-69
11 wins / 10 losses / 1 draw / 6 KO
Birthplace: Sansepolcro
Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto
An apparent weak chin(8 stoppages in 10 losses) kept Besi from maybe being better as he recorded 6 KO's in 11 wins. He defeated Henry Ferjules, Valere Mahau, Fernand Descamps, Pietro Stracci, Marius Sappe, Jose Peyre while loosing to Ermanno Festorazzi twice (fought 1 draw also), Vittorio Verrengia, Giuseppe Ros, Benito Confin, Mariano Echevarria, Hans Jorgen Jacobsen, Raimo Nisula, Piermario Baruzzi and Vasco Faustino. The last five mentioned losses were by TKO and KO.
Benito Confin Rating 1
HW 1965-67
2 wins / 5 losses / 1 draw / 1 KO
Birthplace: Udine
Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto
Fought to a 6 round draw with Giancarlo Bacchini in his first fight in May 1965. Two months later Confin lost a 6 round decision to Celio Turrini then 2 months later again lost another 6 rounder to Ermanno Festorazzi. In Feb 1966 he lost his 3rd straight 6 round decision, this time against Turrini.
Confin next fought in December of 1966 when he knocked out Hans Jorgen Jacobsen in the 2nd round in Sweden. In February 1967 those two fought again, this time in Denmark where Jacobsen won a 4 round decision over Confin. After that Confin went back to native Italy and finished out his career. A week after his 2nd bout with Jacobsen he lost still another 6 round decision again to Celio Turrini. A month later he won a 6 round decision over Peitro Besi(11-10-1,6KO) but there's no other recorded fights for Confin after that.
