New 1967 Heavyweight Replay Project

Trying to get started here on a handful of German HW's from 67....

Gerd Englbrecht Rating 1 Germany
HW 1962-67
3 wins / 11 losses / 1 draw / 2 KO

Alias: Danny Brecht
Birthplace: Nurnberg, Germany

Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto

Englbrecht fought one fight in 1967 according to boxrec, he was a 1st round Knockout victim of Hans Jorgen Jacobsen. On March 2nd in Copenhagen. This was after Gerd had not fought since May of 1965 at least as far as boxrec has note of. Trying to find any note of this bout in Ring, I found in the 1968 Ring Record Book under it's record for Jacobsen it shows this bout taking place on March 4th and it has Gerd's name spelled Engelbrecht. In the June 1967 issue of Ring there is a short mention of this fight where it notes that Jacobsen stopped Danny Brecht, Austria (late Englebrecht, Germany) in 30 seconds with a right to the chin. So this makes it look that Englebrecht however it was spelled being from Germany had moved to Austria and taken up the name Danny Brecht when his fight in 1967 took place. But, since the bulk of his career would appear to be when he was known as Englbrecht and he was born in Germany we're creating him here as Gerd Englbrecht as Boxrec lists him with German nationality.

Gerd's career from 1962 thru 65 was not much to talk about. He was KO'd in 5 by Rudolf Nehring in January 1963 and then lost a 6 round decision to Kurt Stroer and a 4 round decision ot Harry Kneipp in March 1963. That was followed in April of that year by a 2nd round KO at the hands of Benito Penna. After winning his 3rd and last career bout, a 3rd round DQ over a Horst Appel(0-5-0) whom Gerd and beaten in his first career bout a year earlier, Gerd was stopped in the 4th round by a fairly decent LHW of the time, Bas van Duivenbode in Sept 1963. van Duivenbode loose twice to Rudi Lubbers in 1971 in bouts for the Dutch Heavyweight Title.

Two other fights in 1963 saw Gerd knocked out by Ossi Buttner and Vittorio Saraudi. May 1964 he was stopped in 4 by Vittorio Gobbo(2-16-0,1). Then came the Jacobsen fight 3 years later.
