You don't have to study it to death, you just have to think about it some. Often you can head off potential issues that way.

Yes, but an expansion process which is completely fictionalized. And that game
still doesn't let players directly control the alignment of their leagues. You're stuck with whatever alignment the game decides upon when expansion occurs.
Frankly, IMO, the inability to do something as basic as move teams between divisions when you want is a pretty fundamental feature to lack.
