I use PaintShop Pro 9.0 and I just use the freehand select to get as close to the edge as possible then I either use the background eraser or if need be I bring into MS paint at 800% and trace around the image in white. then I paint the remainder of the background and save the image. Works for me and I can get an image done in about 5 minutes. I am not sure if the tools you use have a background eraser or not, but it is a real time saver for me.

PSP 9.0 X version costs like $49.99 for the upgrade. I went to a computer shop that had PSP 7.0 for $10.00 and used this and then upgraded to 9.0.
