Dave Holly takes WBC crown
February 10, 1911
Dave Holly (14/CH) (19-6-8) managed to avoid a draw and took a SD15 upset win over Jack McAuliffe (CH/3) (36-7-2) to win the WBC Lightweight title.
Holly avenged a TKO12 loss to McAuliffe back in 1906. It was a very close fight which could have gone either way. The fight was dead even going into the 10th round, when Holly dropped McAuliffe. The champ barely beat the count but survived the round.
Holly came storming out to finish him off in the 11th but was dropped and had to hang on to survive the 11th. The two split the next two rounds, then Holly won the last two rounds for the win.
I had it 143-141 Holly. Dan Cuoco (RE) had it even at 142. The official judges had it 143-141/141-142/142-141. The commissioner has deemed there will be no mandatory rematch as the decision was fair in his eyes.
