I've had trouble getting back to "Pause after each play" once I've deselected this option. Sometimes if I click inside the box while a game is in the early innings, I get lucky and the PbP will stop at a break between innings. But the longer I let "Pause after each play" go unchecked, the harder it seems to be to get the game to pause. I haven't had any success doing this from about the third inning on.
Maybe it's just me, slow reaction time, bad timing, or whatever. Anyway, I've resigned myself to accepting the "just watch" mode for what it is--you can see the game unfold, but you can't do a thing about it, and you (usually) can't do anything else within the game until the game has played itself out.
