PENNANT RACES:
In a short 68 game season, there are bound to be tight races for the playoffs. This year is no exception as the 2 teams that will play for the MWL Championship weren't decided until the final weekend. In the end, the 2 top teams at the midway point remained the top 2 at the end of the season and Obregon will meet Mexicali in the 1st ever Mexican Winter league championship. The Mochis finished a close 1 game out, but losing 2 of 3 to the last place Hippies to close out the season surely didn't help their bid to be in the Championship.
Rumor has it that the MWL commish is going to expand the regular season to 75 games starting next year felling as this will help both the pennant races and the statistical output in Mexico.
1901 PLAYOFFS
MEXICAN WINTER LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP:
The Orangemen were the best team all year in Mexico and they put the stamp on the season making short work of the Leopards in the MWL Championship, sweeping them 3-0 in the 5 game series. Led by their 3 8 game winners, all 3 won the only game they started in the series as Obregon dominated the series with pitching, holding Mexicali to only 5 runs in 3 games. RF Felipe "Redeye" Valenciano won the MVP as his power led the way, hitting 2 HRs in game 2 and 3 in the series, he drove in 7 of Obregon's 18 runs. The Orangemen celebrated the 1st ever MWL Title deep into the nite as players and fans created mob scenes in the streets.
