PENNANT RACES:
In the AL East, Toronto held off Boston, Baltimore and NY in clinching their first division title. Up by 2 at the midway break, the Blue Jays stayed at the top the entire time in the 2nd half, however all 3 contending teams game them a run for their money. But in the end, Toronto was able to clinch with 4 games left in the season despite Boston having a much better Pyt record.
Detroit turned the Central into a joke, up 12 at the break, winning by 19 games, and the only team in the division over .500 and only team in the AL to win 100 games making it 2 division titles in 2 MLB seasons.
Out West, both the Angels and Rangers made the playoffs for the 2nd straight season, although they flip-flopped in the standings. Texas won the pennant this year, clinching with a week left in the year, and Anaheim won the the AL Wildcard as both teams were head and shoulders above any other team in the AL West.

PENNANT RACES:
The NL East was a strange animal this year. The defending Champs Atlanta, the Mets and the Marlins finished with the top 3 records in all of the NL. However the Braves & Mets were the class of all of baseball, finished far better than any other team in the league and both making the playoffs, with Atlanta winning the division for the 2nd straight season.
The Central proved to be the worst division in all of the majors, as .512 won the division, and the Reds clinched their 2nd straight pennant with a horrible record. 4 teams held the division lead at 1 point or another this year, as a 4 game winning streak would often push that team to the top, but in the end, Cincy's 3 game sweep of the lowly Cubs clinched the division as the Cards couldn't get it done, losing 2 of 3 to Milwaukee to close out the year even though the went into the final series of the year with the division lead.
Arizona made it 3 for 3, being the 3rd NL division winner to repeat from last year. They won their 2nd pennant despite an unimpressive 46-43 2nd half record, as even with the barely over .500 record after the break, the rest of the West all played sub .500 ball, allowing the D-Backs to clinch rather easy with 10 games left in the season.
1901 PLAYOFFS
WILDCARD:
3 of the 4 Wildcard series ended quickly as the Angels, Blue Jays and Reds all swept the Tigers, Rangers & Diamondbacks respectively, the team with the worst record winning all 3 of those series.
The 4th series was the most high profile, pitting the NY Mets against the defending champs, the Atlanta Braves, in a matchup of the teams with the 2 best records during the regular season. NY was able to knock out Atlanta 3 games to 2 making it 4 for 4 for the lower seeded teams. The trade for Nap Lajoie proved to be a big move for NY, as he outdueled George Boutte in the series, and more specifically in game 5, where Nap's 5 for 5 with 3 runs scored proved to be the distance maker in NY's 4-2 series clinching win.
LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP:
Both the ALCS & NLCS were amazing 7 game back and forth series. In the American League, Toronto made it 2 seasons in a row that the AL East division champs would represent the American League in the World Series as they beat the Angels in 7 games. SP Ben Vineyard was their top player all season, leading them, and the AL, in many pitching categories and after going 2-0 in 2 gs, allowing only 1 run in 15.2 ip, he was named series MVP.
The NLCS was a classic case of offense vs. defense. The Reds beat the Mets 4 games to 3, and in their 4 wins, pitching won out, as the Reds held NY to only 4 runs in the 4 games. When NY won, it was all about the O, outscoring Cincy 20-9 including a 12-5 win to open the series. CJ Earp won the NL Cy Young last year for the Reds, but by all account had a disappointing season, that is until the NLCS. Easily winning the MVP award, The Madman started 2 games, and threw 2 cg shutouts, striking out 17 while walking only 1 and allowing 7 hits in his 18 ip.
WORLD SERIES:
The country of Canada is in mass hysteria after Toronto won the World Series in a 7 game series over Cincy. The Blue Jays win made it a clean sweep for Canada as Vancouver also won the World Series of the Rookie league. Down 2-1 and 3-2 in the series, Toronto kept fighting and clawing back in the series before eventually winning it. Vineyard again came up huge for the Jays, throwing a gem in game 6 (8 ip, 1 er, 4 hits, 1 bb, 12 k) after losing his 1st start in the series in Game 2 and sent it to a deciding game 7 up in Toronto. 2 time all-star RF Frank Nichols got the chance he needed and hit 2 bombs in the blowout game 7 as Toronto celebrated after a 7-2 win. Nichols was named WS MVP hitting 4 homers in the series and driving in 9 while hitting a gaudy .375.

AWARD WINNERS
AMERICAN LEAGUE
MVP AWARD - RF Ron Cronshaw (Tampa Bay Devil Rays)
- 27yo / USA - MLB MVP Awards: 1
- Season Stats: 162 g - 588 ab - .354 avg - 47 hr - 146 rbi - 128 r - 3 sb - 1.145 ops
- Career Stats: 324 g - 1182 ab - .315 avg - 80 hr - 237 rbi - 233 r - 7 sb - 1.034 ops (majors/2 yrs)
- Overview: Cronshaw was the best hitter in the AL for much of the regular season, and despite being overshadowed by the NL MVP, he had a spectacular year. He led the AL in only OPS & Vorp, but that hardly tells the entire story as he finished with the 4th best Avg, and 2nd most HR & RBI in the league. The remarkable part is that he put up these numbers with not much help around him as Tampa Bay finished with one of the worst records in baseball. At 27 yo, Cronshaw has reached his prime and peaked in ratings, so expect this type of production from the MVP rightfielder for quite a few seasons.
CY YOUNG AWARD - SP Mamo "The Rat" Kirop (Chicago White Sox)
- 36yo / Lesothoania - MLB CY YOUNG Awards: 1
- Season Stats: 33 g - 33 gs - 22-8 rec - 0 sv - 2.85 era - 258.2 ip - 50 bb - 252 k - 0.98 whip
- Career Stats: 65 g - 65 gs - 40-18 rec - 0 sv - 3.45 era - 503.0 ip - 93 bb - 546 k - 1.03 whip (majors/2 yrs)
- Overview: At 36 yo, Kirop's career is on the downswing, but he proved he still had atleast 1 more dominant season in him, leading all MLB pitchers in Whip & opp Avg, showing he was the league's most difficult pitcher to hit. He led the AL in wins, while finishing 2nd in ERA and in the top 5 in K's with the best BB/K ratio. With 1 more year on his current contract, Mamo is looking to re-up with Chicago and looking to retire as the White Sox best pitcher ever in their short history.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD - SP Jack Bracken (Boston Red Sox)
- 20yo / USA - MLB ROY Awards: 1
- Season Stats: 34 g - 34 gs - 19-13 rec - 0 sv - 3.07 era - 281.1 ip - 61 bb - 91 k - 1.22 whip

- Overview: The future is bright in Beantown as Bracken became the Red Sox's 2nd straight AL ROY. The 27th overall selection in the 1900 rookie draft, Bracken won the AL Pitcher of the Month award twice while leading all MLB rookie pitchers in ERA, Whip & Vorp and AL rookie pitchers in wins, IP and Opp avg. At only 20 yo, Bracken project to a future Cy Young winner and should anchor Boston's talented staff for quite some time.

NATIONAL LEAGUE
MVP AWARD - 2b George Boutte (Atlanta Braves)
- 29yo / USA - MLB MVP Awards: 1
- Season Stats: 162 g - 638 ab - .403 avg - 50 hr - 185 rbi - 150 r - 19 sb - 1.202 ops
- Career Stats: 311 g - 1192 ab - .367 avg - 94 hr - 303 rbi - 279 r - 34 sb - 1.140 ops (majors/2 yrs)
- Overview: Is there anything more that needs to be said besides, MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TRIPLE CROWN WINNER! Boutte's season was literally off the charts when you compare it to real-life MLB's all time great seasons. Along with leading all of the majors in Avg, HR & RBI, he also led all of the MLB in Runs, OB %, Slug %, OPS, Runs Created, Vorp, Hits, Total Bases & Isolated Power...a truly remarkable feat & season.
CY YOUNG AWARD - SP Marvin Henkle (Atlanta Braves)
- 25yo / USA - MLB CY YOUNG Awards: 1
- Season Stats: 35 g - 35 gs - 22-5 rec - 0 sv - 2.73 era - 221.0 ip - 52 bb - 200 k - 1.14 whip
- Career Stats: 81 g - 57 gs - 33-12 rec - 0 sv - 2.82 era - 386.2 ip - 114 bb - 322 k - 1.16 whip (majors/2 yrs)
- Overview: Atlanta made it a sweep of the top 2 awards in the NL as the Henkle won the NL Cy Young in his 1st full season as a starter. While some might argue a pitcher on a team who had 3 20-game winners can't be the Cy Young, some might argue he wasn't even the best pitcher on his team, Marquz Fileto was, the cold truth is Henkle is the Cy Young winner and one of the top pitchers in baseball all season long. While not leading the NL in any 1 stat, he ranked in the top 5 in ERA, Wins, Whip & Vorp and as is a fixture as a full time SP for the rest of his career.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD - LF Topsy Hartsel (Philadelphia Phillies)
- 27yo / USA - MLB ROY Awards: 1
- Season Stats: 148 g - 535 ab - .348 avg - 6 hr - 67 rbi - 109 r - 53 sb - .957 ops
- Career Stats: 148 g - 535 ab - .348 avg - 6 hr - 67 rbi - 109 r - 53 sb - .957 ops (majors/1 yr)
- Overview: After the shocking release of #1 overall pick Christy Mathewson, Hartsel became the Phillies top rookie as the 1st pick in the 2nd rd. He led all MLB rookies in OPS, Vorp & walks and led NL rookies in every offensive category except for HR. But serving as the Phillies leadoff hitter, he doesn't need to hit the longball, and the 27yo is a future All-star at LF in the NL.
