I think the 1st two reds were definitely justified. The elbow was a no-brainer on several levels. At first I thought the first US red was harsh, but looking at the replay I agree with it. There was no need for him to come flying in like that and when he came studs first into the side of the ankle he could easily have broken it. I only saw the last few minutes of the second half, but the pundits after said they agreed with the final red. And also the referees have been explicitly told by FIFA to crack down on those sort of dangerous tackles.
As long as the ref is consistent then I generally have no complaints (how I feel about cricket umpires too) and I think although not the best referee in the entire world, this guy was reasonably consistent throughout the entire game.
