Well, for starters, MLB switched to an exclusive license system this year, so it's not terribly likely ootp was going to get it, especially considering that EA with all its resources
lost out on the license, and went and got the NCAA license to put out a baseball game this year (which btw, is pretty fun).
Also, ootp has never had a license, so it's not a new thing with SI being cheap/greedy (if you don't already know, this is the 7th version on ootp, and SI has only been involved with this one).
Sure, I'd love for the game to come prepackaged with accurate roster lists and such, but consider that this game doesn't just include the major leagues, but a number of foreign leagues as well. I have a friend who plays football manager (I've never much like metric football), and he said that getting the rosters/players/leagues right was a massive, 10-year, game-community-wide effort. If we wanted the developers to go it alone and do all that, the game would cost about $150 and might come out sometime before 2012.
