One of the last remaining original owners in the
CDL is stepping down after 1983, our 15th!!!!! Season. While we are saddened by the fact this owner is leaving, this is an incredibly rare opportunity for you to join the CDL. This is the first time in almost a year that we have advertised any openings on the OOTP message boards as we have a very low turnover rate.
For those of you who have not heard of the CDL, let me tell you about the league. The CDL was founded in July of 2001 using the players from the 1969 season. We sim on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with 15 days per sim. The CDL does use financials and has a salary cap. Also, there are plenty of features to the league, besides a long history and an impeccable record of on time sims and owner participation. Some of the features include the CDL News, which boasts many articles written by the owners of the CDL, amateur draft pools that are edited, which is very important for historical leagues that strive for historical accuracy, and one of the best groups of owners you could ever meet. (I’ve been playing in online leagues for six years and have never met a better group of owners in any league.)
For those of you interested in statistics and history, I’ve listed some of accomplishments of some of the CDLs biggest stars, past and present.
Harmon Killebrew is the current CDL leader in career homeruns with 709, though Reggie Jackson is trying to catch him and currently has 591 at age 37.
While Hammerin’ Hank Aaron never did become the All-time Home Run leader in the CDL, due to Killebrew’s prodigious slugging, he did manage to become the All-Time RBI leader with 2162 and Runs Scored leader with 2130 and is second in career hits only to Roberto Clemente.
For those of you who think history never takes any twists or turns in the CDL, Ed Kranepool is making a valiant effort to reach 3,000 hits and currently has 2,922 hits for his career.
For pitchers, the current All-Time Wins leader is Claude Osteen with 343. (Personally, I still hate Claude Osteen for beating Jim Palmer three times in the 1972 World Series, singlehandedly giving the title to the Twins over the Astros, but perhaps our current Twins owner would like to reminisce about Osteen in a positive light.)
Darold Knowles has been the premier closer in CDL history racking up 477 saves in his career.
And no discussion of the CDL is complete without mentioning career ERA leader and soon to be All-Time Wins leader Steve Busby. Busby has been the most dominating pitcher in CDL history and has 272 wins at the age of 33. (The CDL is also the proud sponsor of Steve Busby over at baseball-reference.com)
I guess my mentioning statistics of some of the CDL greats led to reminiscing of my own as well.
Anyway, now that you have checked out the website and have seen for yourself what the CDL offers and heard one man’s testimonial to the league, you want to know what do you have to do to join?
