It was an executive decision made by SI. I do not know the exact details of who, what, when, where or why.

Then with the game play issues I played a half season of the demo and a few weird issues came up - a few players had a # sign by their name and that symbol is not one of the ones explained below -- no big deal it's probably something in the big 350+ manual. LOL.

You are seeing this in the leaderboards? If so it means he is an active player. If not please let us know where you are seeing this.

I am not totally new to this as I had the 2004 or 2005 version of the game -- this one is way deeper. I was wondering if I missed it or not but how many times can you send someon down to the minors -- I did not notice a limit and I'm not sure the rule on that in MLB.
|
During the 1st 3 years a player is on the 40 man roster he can be called up and sent back down as often as you would like. After that the rules get much more complicated.

I played in GM mode and was unable to figure out how to play an actual game managing the club? Can you do both?
|
Yes you can. If you are the GM you can do both. If you are only the manager of a minor league team then you cannot act as the GM as your parent team's GM will be doing to transactions. You play the game by going to the Scores & Schedules screen and click on manage. I actually think if you are in commish mode you can manage any team you want from that screen but I never tried it.

I also could not quite figure out the scouting system -- I had the Toronto Blue Jays and started up with a league draft. When I came to the First year player draft I asked my head scout (who has very high ratings) for his recommendation -- the problem was that some of the players that would come up woud have no information. I had the game set for out of 20 and I would see a catcher say who was 22 and had 20 for contact potential and was ratedhighly defensively by SION. SO I decided to have one of my better hitting scouts look him over. Anyway, I got a bit confused because the guy my scout was picking was average defensively and had no info offense wise. I chose someone else -- that player was still available for the next 3 rounds so I took him because I was sick of seeing his name come up.
|
The first thing you should do with the first year player draft is to send out your best scouts as each of the scouting areas to scout the draft pool. Once they ahve that done you will have more than just your head scout and the SISA scouting service to look at for determining who is the best players available. Also if you ask your head scout who he would draft he is going to continue to say that same player until that player is drafted and it will not matter what your organizational needs are. You could have 25 op notch catchers in your organization and if the best player on your head scouts board is a catcher he will recommend that catcher until he is drafted.

The catcher who has a contact potential of 20 my scout rated a 5. Mind you all this is cool because like in real life my scout could be right and the guy could be a bum or my scout could have blown it and I should can him!
|
I know this is kinda cheating but go into commissioner mode and pull that player up in editor mode. You will see what his actual potentials are in the same scale the game uses (not the scale you chose to display them in). I think you will find that the SISA ratings suck compared to your scout.

As for the system -- it seemed rather slow to simulate one day. The old version I found slow too. I am on a laptop though but in a year I would like to put the game on my PC. (can I do that)?
|
Yes when you buy the game it comes with the ability to install it on 2 machines. If you should use both installations and wish to remove it from one machine and place it on another you can do so by unliscensing the game on the maching you want to remove it from and liscensing it on the new machine. Others can tell you exactly how to do that better than I can. If you need help in doing so I would suggest going to the tech support area and posing this question there.

Sorry for the lame ass newbish questions
My computer is a HP Pavilion Pentium M DV 1040ca. I don;t know the speed but it's a year old or so and has a 512mb ram and 60 gig HD (I have an external though which is 7200rpm Samsung -- should I save it to the faster external hard drive -- (if that is even possible?) It has the fast USB 2.0 link up.

I don't see why not

Also, how long does everyone think the "good to go" version will be. Right now they are fixing all the bugs and goofy issues but it seems like the game is quite a LOT more ambitious than the older one I had and the screen layout is easier to read.

Depends on what kind of a OOTP player you are. If you like day to day pitch by pitch simulation then I would wait for another patch to come out and evaluate it then. If you like more of the GM side of the game it might be ready if you can overlook some of the roster handling issues. If you are like some of us and enjoy letting the game run season after season and seeing if you can get a statistically accurate game then the game is in good shape IMO.

Lastly there was one quirck I noticed. Near the trade deadline I looked up the best pitchers and saw a guy named Bing in NYM. Anyway he had 15 18 etc ratings out of 20. He is 28. Anyway I traded for him which took a lot of fairly HQ talent so it was very good AI on that. But he was eligable for arbitration so I decided since my pitching stunk that I wanted him long term - call me JP Riciardi and wanting to dole out a 5 year contract. Now he was one of the two most dominating NL pitchers and all he asked for was 2.8 million over 2 years. (1.4 a year). So naturally I locked him in for 5 years plus an option.
That's great -- I had another pitcher nowhere near as good that I paid 6mill plus a year to.
Are you al finding this sort of signing goof. I figured it might be that because Bing Shifted to the AL and only had 5 innings that the AI was basing his value of his performance -- maybe in the NL he would have asked for 14mill??
Thanks for the help

This I believe is a reported issue with players negotiating contracts that don't make sense.
