I wouldn't call it major, I'd call it more of an annoyance. There are probably some who prefer OOTP's way and think MLB's first round restriction is foolish anyway.
Also, if you're doing a historical league, the current MLB playoff matchup scheme was not used in 1995-1997 and an entirely different method was used. That system can't be recreated either.
