How historical do you need it to be, if the pre-2006 part is just for history? (Hope that made sense, and I'm not trying to be smart, it's a real question.) Do you need an in-game history back to 1901, or would some other year do?

I think somebody mentioned a while back that 1946 is a good starting point for a historical league if your primary concern with minors is having them look right by the time you get to 2006. That is, starting in '46 you can basically have all the current affiliated leagues, or their antecedent leagues under different names.

I've already done a moderate amount of work on such a world, although mine isn't 100% committed to historicism. It starts in '46 with an arrangement that substantially (but not exactly) reflects the reality of that year, but I'm trying to design it to *diverge* from subsequent history so that by the time I reach 2006 it will look very different indeed. (For example, the PCL will be an independent league, and the highest level of baseball on the west coast.)
