Being a Brewer fan (And in no way a Selig fan), I've had the experience of following AL baseball and NL baseball. When the Brewers were an AL team I also never paid any attention to "the league that let pitchers hit". Once the Brewers moved to the National League I could never again find myself as interested in the AL. I thought having pitchers hit was a waste of an AB, but that's how I was biased by my AL only view. Once you try NL you'll never go back.
