The Cubs dodged a bullet last night, as they beat a game
Reds team 9-8.
Bubba Jones started, and for the most part pitched well. Jones
got tired in the ninth inning....no wonder, as he had given
up 12 hits, 3 walks, and struck out 14!
Jones went to 12-8 on the year, and the Cubs remain one game
back of Miami.
Reliever Mort came in with the sacks jammed, and promptly game
up a walk, then a double to give up all three runners he
inherited. Only a fine catch in the outfield prevented a total
calamity....a game saver by Cadle in left.
The Cubs second sacker Benning was ejected in the second inning,
and was reported to have spent the remainder of the game playing
dominoes and drinking beer in the clubhouse. It is also reported
that Manager Clarkson wishes to have a talk with young Benning.
Game No.: 1030.
