JML took my mantra

...so I'll echoe his sentiments: "Fair Ball"...good book.
I don't hate the Yankees, I believe I've mentioned that I get tired of them winning all the time (but, this is nothing new, every other decade or so, the Yankees string together a monster run of series wins

), but I don't hate them.
Yes, the Yankees are the poster-franchise for MLB's problems with inequality. The problem, however, isn't the Yankees...you take:
- The advent of Free-Agency
- Spiraling (out of control) player salaries
- The "Stadium Bonanza" effect
- Coupled with no salary cap, perhaps more importantly no salary floor...
- Incompetence in the Commissioner's Office
and you have a large bulk of the MLB's problems.
Another good book is Whitey Herzog's, some shameless self-aggrandizement ("I would like to be in the Hall of Fame") and some wonderful insights...for instance, encourage spitballs, teach aggressive, Early Wynn-style pitching, and the HR isn't the end-all-be-all...amen!
