The guaranteed contracts combined with the porous cap makes basketball more unforgiving than baseball in terms of flexibility. I think alot of the benefit that people attribute to the cap in football is actually the non-guaranteed contracts. Teams have a chance to rebound from their mistakes and get back to a competitive level much more quickly (given competent management).
